Creator of Composite Diamond Coating®

Surface Technology, Inc. is the creator and technical leader of CDC - Composite Diamond Coating®, an exceptionally engineered coating of electroless nickel with fine diamond. The synergy of these materials makes CDC an exceptionally hard and wear resistant coating. CDC conforms to even the most complex geometries and is an excellent replacement for chrome plating. STI makes CDC available via coating services from its production facility as well as chemical products sold directly, through a network of distributors, and by agreement with licensees worldwide.

Contact STI for One-Plate® Electroless Nickel solutions, the simplest EN in the world. These One-Plate® systems use just one “Q” solution for both bath make-up and replenishment. This innovation by STI overcomes the many shortcomings of using three A, B, and C solutions. Available in low, medium, high phosphorous, and composite EN varieties. Naturally, all are RoHS compliant.”

NiSLIP™ 520 and 521

A COMPOSITE PTFE, HIGH PHOSPHOROUS, ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING PROCESS

The 520 system is a composite PTFE, high phosphorous, electroless nickel process designed to deposit a uniform composite with ultra-fine PTFE particles onto a great variety of metals, alloys, and non-conductors.

Some advantages of the 520 system are deposits with low friction, self-lubricity, and release properties; as well as increased corrosion resistance.

The 520 system electroless nickel processes meet or exceed MIL-C-26074D and AMS 2404C.

Typical Deposit Properties:

Coefficient of Static Friction 0.1
Coefficient of Dynamic Friction 0.08-0.10
PTFE Content 20-26%
Phosphorus Content 10-13% by wt.
Hardness:
o as plated 300 VHN100
o heat treated @ 250°C 550 VHN100
Salt Spray (ASTM-B-117) 1000+ hrs.
Stress compressive
Magnetic Properties non-magnetic
Deposition rate 0.25-0.35 mil per hour

NiSLIP™ 521 is a RoHS compatible version of NiSLIP™ 520.

NiSLIP™ 520 is a coating of sub micron PTFE particles uniformly dispersed throughout a hard electroless nickel matrix.  This engineered coating is similar to NiSLIP™ 510, but provides even higher corrosion resistance.  The percentage of Teflon in the coating is typically 20-25% by volume, but can be varied depending on the requirements of each application.  The coating features a high phosphorous electroless nickel matrix.

NiSLIP™ 520 provides numerous benefits including:

  • Self-lubricity/low coefficient of friction
  • Excellent release properties
  • Outstanding corrosion resistance
  • Perfect conformity to complex geometries
  • Coverage of entire services or selected critical areas
  • Applicability to many common metals, alloys, ceramics, and plastics

These features reduce sliding wear and sticking problems.  The performance advantages of NiSLIP™ 520 have been utilized widely in the automotive, molding, textile, gear, and assembly industries to name just a few.

NiSLIP® 520 has received a positive review from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Department of Health and Human Services.  Click here for details.

The NiSLIP® 520 technology is available from STI:

  • As a coating service from STI’s production facility onto your parts, and
  • In chemical products from STI for customers to use in their own facilities. Click this link for further information on these chemical products –NiSLIP™ 520 Chemical Solutions
